Model Savings Featuring Kennie Dubb
by Unknown on

I recently worked with an artists and decided to do an interview with him for model savings.

Here's what he had to say.
Where do you get your inspiration from most?
How do you get into music? How does One get into music or How did I get into music? well i got into music because of my parents love for it, more so my pops who was heavy with hiphop. We're west indie carribean folks so its in our culture, so music was always an influence. How Does One get into music? If that was the question? Id say by genuinely being a student and a lover of it. Dont subject to just one thing bring it all in and sift for what you like. If wanting to be a musician youre going to have to start from the ground up. From the creative aspect to the business unless its just for passion and expression which is dope too.
What would you classify your music genre as? Ive always had trouble with this one, Primarily its HipHop/Rap but A large percent of my music especially my music visuals, border line alternative hiphop based off the outter hiphop elements we incorperate. I am A hiphop artist with multifacets.
What is the most difficult thing for you as an artist that you feel like you have to face? Creating That Machine. Its the only way youll really succeed in the business. Its all about indepedence. I handle almost everything on my own at at times it can be overwhelming and/or challenging finding the right key connections thatll put you on that next level...That higher platform. Its all about a solid team, and for me over the yrs ive taken steps forward in situations that have also set me back but theres a positive to every negative and ive learned so much that im built for the challenge due to the fact of having to handle my own business.
What are some of the projects that you are currently working on or have worked on in the past? Currently gearing up to release UNSUNG HERO2 the follow up to 2013's UNSUNG HERO summer release. We released the first Visual "NO PROMISES" which landed on MTV.com and HOT97's DJ Enuff's Website as well. At the Top of the new year we will release the follow up visual "TAKE MY TIME WITH HER" starring Sheila J, both filmed by Creative Visual Art Director Jaison BlackRose. Couple live shows and a new single with Singer Sean Taylor also on the way.
What are some of your GREATEST accomplishments? In life Id say having been Fully Present in my Daughters life all her life. Fatherhood is something you cant take forgranted. Musically Id say my consistency is impecable, My work ethic which as allowed me to perform every month for the past 2 yrs, did a 6month college tour twice, Touched the SOB's stage in NYC twice, ive managed to connect with some really talented diamonds in the rough over time and it has really gave me a position to be a motivator and a leader.
How was it working with Sheila J? Working With Sheila Was Awesome, her profressionalism is what id highlight because thats one of the most important things I look for and also produce. Working with her and my brother who filmed us, was a cool experience because she brought the right energy to the visual to support the song "TAKE MY TIME WITH HER" from one hard worker to the next I just wanted to provide a cross opportunity for both of us to expose our talents.

Kennie, Please tell us at ModelSavings.com a little bit about yourself.
Hailing from the North East section of The Bronx. Performing all over the NYC underground scene. Dropping amazingly creative Visuals and currently on his 2nd season of the official 6month in/out state Dean's List College Tour (www.DeansListTour.com) with current mixtape "UNSUNG HERO" Released and "UNSUNG HERO2" on the way. KD continues to show case why he's in his own lane headed toward indie success.

I draw Most, of My inspiration from a culmination of personal experiences over time as well as the desire to succeed and accomplishing opportunites. I also enjoy seeing others win in there passion, seeing them thrive makes me want to in my craft.

Styling With Sheila J "Urban Love"
by Unknown on

When I met you I didn't think anything of it. Barely even looked at you. Now I am here and your all I think about. This urban love what right and wrong. I speak into existence and you know me better than I know myself. His eyes are like passage ways to his soul only problem is soul is tainted by all the wrong that's been done. Not used to someone caring the way I do because truth is no one else never did it right. Baby put your pride a side let me show you how real this urban love is cause I'll do for you as you do for me. I treat you as my king deserves to be treated just as long as my king does right by me. I couldn't have found better words to express this feeling without not saying to much. This urban love got me up all night, wanting to spend the rest of my life with you. You breathe into my ear and whisper my name, my world changes because your slowly becoming my world. Sleep baby sleep but don't sleep our love away this love is strong doesn't matter if it hasn't been long. I know  it seems as if I am trying to be a poet but I am just expressing myself in a way that I am not really used to. trust!  I trust like no other which is why I am giving you my heart but babe please don't break it I wouldn't know what to do. Maybe it's just me but this urban love feels real and I don't want it to end. You just want the doctors prescribed Your my sick love addiction, the needle, the pills and the gun to my black and white love story.

Government Help For Creatives
by Unknown on

I never really do a post like this where I rant on about a topic. But I am sure I am not the only one who has noticed this whether you are a model, photographer, makeup artists, actress, wardrobe stylist, blogger whatever it maybe I am sure you felt like this at some point in your life. So earlier last week I had to go to apply for public assistance, to receive cash assistance you know the deal but because I don't work full time I have to do this program called back to work or America Works (New York).

Indeed I went to the orientation for the program, and when I was done I had a question of concern. Well what do I do if i have other things to do besides this and I have a photo shoot or something. The lady in turn says that we find that this program doesn't really work for artists, photographers and models etc. So I asked her why, she said that HRA feels that anything of self employment or creative is not a stable enough job. (Little does she know)

Now I am not saying I want to be on public assistance forever or take advantage of the system. What I am saying is that for the time being I am struggling and could use the extra help. Being in a creative field doesn't mean that what I do is not stable. J.K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter series while being on public assistance. So why can't I? She admitted that she would take jobs for less money just so that she can stay on public assistance. None the less she was also a single mother. I am not even a mother yet and I am trying to be an entrepreneur and accomplish dreams way beyond my hearts content.

To read more on J. K. Rowling's story click below:
http://thestir.cafemom.com/toddler/161299/jk_rowlings_brutal_honesty_about

I feel as if the government just wants you to struggle and work a job for someone else for the rest of your life versus accomplishing your dreams. The government won't acknowledge what you do unless your making millions like Beyoncé.

Reading more into this subject matter I deciced to research some information and read into this matter.
Similar results bore out in a study of the link between entrepreneurship and eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which Olds details in the 2014 paper "Food Stamp Entrepreneurs."
His research examined what happened after a significant expansion of SNAP threshold levels in the mid-2000s, which loosened eligibility requirements such that more people qualified for the food stamp program. He found that newly eligible households were 20 percent more likely to include an entrepreneur as a result of the policy. Incorporated businesses ownership increased by 16 percent among the newly eligible."  http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/7589.html
Reading up on this topic, I have read an article that states, that blank state allows for lower income families to be on public assistance to start there own business. This program is called Aspire; I am wondering what would it take for New York City to create a program like this because I am sure there are some smart individuals that would like to start a business but because they have limited resources financially  , and maybe bad credit they can not anything about doing so.When your like me who is frugal and is always looking for ways to make money, and pay off my debt getting a little help while struggling is not gonna kill the system. Granted I have realized I am way over my time or at least that's what people tell me all the time.
So i am just trying to find a balance and make something work is that so wrong of me?

Saving Money With Jessi From The Budget MAMA
by Unknown on

Everyone knows me for me wanting to save money. However Recently, I found myself
reaching a moment of being stuck and not exactly know what to do.
Blocked and feeling like I was having bad luck after bad luck.
But than I was scrolling through Pinterest  and I
found a picture that led me to TheBudgetMama.com
with in doing so, I read her E Book that she write with other bloggers.
I decided that I would reach out to Jessi and the others and feature them on my blog.
See where and how they save their money.
Maybe this can save me and my sanity because currently I have none.
So introducing Jessi :)
of TheBudgetMama.com.

What is your inspiration?

My inspiration for saving money comes from struggling to manage my money early on in my adult life. I was raised in an extremely frugal household, but I rebelled against those teachings when I was let out into the "real world" and ended up almost bankrupt at 21 years old. I've seen what the darkness of financial hell looks like and I never want to go back. I got my t-shirt.

What is the hardest part of saving money?
Delaying gratification. It is so hard to tell myself "no" when I truly want or believe "need" something. I can always make up some justification for a purchase but if it does match with my budget, I have to tell myself "no". My family depends on me being an adult and being able to resist the temptation of impulse shopping.

Is it possible to get out of debt for someone who feels like it's not possible?

Yes. I remember what it felt like to have that burden on my back, and I still have it. We are not 100% debt-free yet, but we have paid off over $40,000 so far and with every little bit it gets easier to breathe, even with the burden still on our backs. When you feel like you're lost in the never ending cycle of debt, reach for hope. Make a debt payoff plan by first making a budget. I credit the first budget I ever made on my own as saving my life because it forced me to take real ownership of the mess I had made. I worked two jobs, sold off as much stuff as I could, and even gave up my tax refund checks to make a dent in my debt. It is possible to get out of debt, no matter how deep in the hole you may feel, don't ever give up.

When and how did you start your blog?

I started The Budget Mama in July of 2012.

Is there any advice you can give to new bloggers out there?

Blogging is not for the faint of heart and if you're only in it to make money, you will just end up burned out. Make sure you are passionate about whatever it is that you are writing about. I once heard that if you can't write at least 500 words on a subject/topic then you shouldn't be writing on it. I truly believe that. You have to have passion to be a blogger.

What advice would you give to people who are new to the idea of saving money?

"A bargain isn't a bargain if you don't need it." For most, when they get excited about saving money for the first time, they start couponing like crazy and chasing sales, which is truly great for saving money, but if you don't need it, you are still wasting money. When starting out with saving money, look at your budget and determine where you can cut - do you still have a gym membership you never use, or do you have 500 channels but only watch 2, or do spend way too much at Starbucks? You can cut those expenses and save money quickly. Over time, once you get used to saving money, you will spot ways to save easily.

What are some of the ways you save money?

We don't have cable and haven't had it in 8 years. It is amazing what not watching commercials will do for you - it will save you tons! I also avoid stores that I know I spend a ton of money in, like Target who even has a Starbucks inside just calling my name! I also quit following deal sites because I was so tempted to purchase things simply because they were a great deal.

Where can the readers find you on social media?

Benefits Of Having A Facebook Fan Page
by Unknown on

All last year I went on this battle about not wanting to manage two different Facebook pages, and gave all the reasons in the world for WHY I didn't want a fan page. So my regular page became like my fan page and since people could follow me it didn't hurt whether or not I didn't have a fan page. But after some research that I found I realized that having a fan page may have some benefits to it. One major benefit is that I can keep my personal life separate from the world. Let's face it the world doesn't need to know your who, what, where, when, and why business.  So I am sharing the 15 benefits of having a Facebook fan page written by Stephanie Frasco

15 Benefits Of Having A Fan Page On Facebook Book

1. Unlimited Friend Count
While the amount of friends you have on your personal profile page is limited and capped at 5,000, your Fan Page can have an infinite number of fans. This is probably one of the most important reasons that you should be using a Fan Page and not your personal page. Why would you ever want to limit the amount of fans your brand can have?
2. You Have The Option To Keep Your Personal Life Private(-ish)
In creating a Fan Page you are, essentially, keeping your personal page separate and not connected to it. For those who want to keep Facebook for friends and family, this is an important feature. It's vital. You can control the privacy settings on your personal page and optimize publicity for your Fan Page. It can become incredibly annoying to your friends and family who are constantly seeing business updates from you. This option is a great way around it.
3. Search Engine Results
Facebook Fan Pages are indexed, which means that some of the public content is indexed as well. As a business, you want to show up on the search engines. Of course, you want to direct traffic to your website first, but having a social presence is very important.
4. Tagging Your Brand
Your fans and other Fan Pages can tag your Fan Page. Only your friends can tag your personal page. As you want to show up on as many newsfeeds as possible, you definitely want the option to be Tagged in photos and posts by others. This increases your engagement, not to mention your fan base.
5. Facebook Insights
Facebook Fan Pages have great analytics. You can tack the amount of views a post receives and monitor your weekly reach all within the Facebook Insights. To be a smart marketer means knowing how to maximize each post and learning which posts work best for your brand. This is the insight you need to deliver the right content to your fans.
6. Facebook Tabs
Facebook tabs are only allowed on Fan Pages. Enough said?
7. Facebook Contests
Facebook contests are often seen in tabs. You can't host a successful contest on your personal page because the software and third party apps are just not there. Contests build engagement and engagement is your friend.
8. Profiles Look Like You Don't Know What's Going On
Plain and simple. A brand that directs to a personal page just looks amateur. You only get one first impression. You don't want it to be this one.
9. Advertising
Facebook advertising, while expensive, is very targeted. Advertising to a Fan Page is more effective than an outside landing page because Facebook wants to keep the traffic within the network. You can promote your Fan Page through ads, but not your personal page.
10. Admin Connections
By granting select people access to your Fan Page, you avoid giving out your password to multiple people. You can chose what rights they get to finagle with and what they can do within your Fan Page. This also allows for a pretty nice checks and balances system for your brand.
11. Check-Ins & Location Services
You can allow people to check into your brand through your Facebook Fan Page. You can't do anything like this on your personal page. If you have a location for your business, this is crucial for social proofing and newsfeed marketing. You always want to get people to interact with your brand. They can do so by checking in.
12. Promoted Posts
Okay, you can promote your posts now on your personal page, but they aren't as strong. Your personal page is often less targeted than your Fan Page. In being able to promote certain posts you are able to garner more exposure for whatever it is you're trying to push. You'll also have analytic access to this promoted post. If you promote posts like I do, you'll notice a definite leap in Likes.
13. Showcase The Other Pages You Like
Fan Pages give you the option to like pages and showcase them on your page. These should be brands that you have relationships with or brands that have a similar following. See tip #15 for more on this.
14. Newsfeed Marketing
Newsfeed marketing is the basis of social media marketing. By having a regularly updated Fan Page, you'll be seen and noticed on the newsfeeds of your fans. When they interact with your posts and brand, you'll show up on their friends' newsfeeds. This is your key to gaining new fans.
15. Comment As Your Brand
This is great branding. As long as you Like pages officially to your Fan Page, you can comment on their content and posts as well. In doing so, you're increasing exposure for your brand and providing valuable (read: priceless) insight and conversations with a new audience.
Do you use your personal page for business?  What other benefits are there in using a fan page instead of a personal page?

I found these benefits very helpful did you? comment below let me know what you think?
